The sun had just begun to set over the horizon, and the first stars of the night dotted the sky, stepping up to be sources of light once the sun had disappeared for the night. Under the cloak of the trees a girl was walking quickly, hoping to get through the forest. Shivering from the chilly wind that the night had brought, Alexis sighed and thought about her day as she continued her trudge through the woods. Having spent the day dealing with naughty Pokemon and poisoned strangers, Alexis was eager to get her journey truly started for a change. She walked briskly through the light layer of snow that was covering the forest, with her Torchic following at her heels. The chick Pokemon chirped happily, excited at the prospect of being able to travel and explore. Spending a while at Calitha's Pokemon Center had left the pair renewed and ready to take on whatever challenges came their way. 00/15 Growl / Scratch / Ember

As Alexis and Torchic strode through the dimly lit forest, an oddly colored, spherical Pokemon came their way. Alexis had never seen a Pokemon like this before, but she was excited for her Torchic to finally get to train against real, live creatures. This would be excellent practice for the times when they had to travel the region and battle Trainers from all over. Without a word, she pointed at the Pokemon a few feet away, motioning for her own to attack it. Confidently, Torchic hopped in front of his Trainer and chirped loudly, excited to prove himself worthy of her company. "Torchic, use Ember," she said calmly. Surprisingly, given his behavior earlier in the day, Torchic obliged, sending out a long flame from its beak that seared its opponent. The opposing Solosis was stunned for a second at this attack, but responded by sending out an odd psychic wave that hit Torchic directly. Not wanting to lose this battle, the Torchic let out a second Ember attack, doing a good chunk of damage. However, a now enraged Solosis responded by going down to the ground and rolling straight into Torchic at a high speed, causing the Pokemon to chirp in pain. "Keep going. Use Ember again," Alexis ordered, knowing that her Pokemon would be more than capable of defeating this opponent if he just tried a little harder. After shaking off the hard-hitting Rollout, Torchic was able to once again attack the wild Psychic-type with a wisp of flame. In response, Solosis got ready to perform another Rollout attack, and a more powerful one than the last. "Dodge!" the Trainer yelled. Torchic was able to respond quickly to Alexis's voice, moving out of the way in the nick of time as Solosis rolled past him. "Finish it with Scratch," Alexis told her Torchic. Albeit the Pokemon was very tired from its first battle, it could still pay attention to orders. Picking up its right leg, it slashed Solosis with its sharp talons, leaving the cell Pokemon dazed from all the damage it had taken over the course of the battle. Seeing that the Pokemon was close to fainting, Alexis unclipped an empty PokeBall and tossed it at the Solosis, hoping to catch it. 00/15 Growl / Scratch / Ember

Having defeated the first Pokemon they had encountered, Alexis and Torchic continued to make their way through the forest. Alexis shoved her hands in her pockets and whistled absentmindedly, thinking about the things she would need to do in order to challenge the first Gym Leader of the region. Meanwhile, Torchic followed along behind her, pecking the ground at seemingly random intervals in an attempt to find something yummy to snack on. They weren't walking for very long when they encountered something else, but it certainly wasn't what they expected to find. Alexis noticed an odd gleam in the middle of a patch of tall grass. She and Torchic approached it, thinking that it was a Pokemon at first, but whatever it was, it didn't move. Inching closer and closer, the item was eventually right at their feet. Alexis crouched down to get a good look at it, while Torchic, very curious, gave a slight headbutt and then scurried backwards in case it attacked. In response to this movement, a fairly large, oval object rolled over on its side. Alexis and Torchic glanced at each other, then back at the object. It seemed to be a Pokemon Egg, but... there were no parents in sight. Shrugging, Alexis picked it up and stowed it carefully in her backpack, lodged in between her other supplies. She signaled to her Torchic that they should carry on walking before somebody else came to claim the Egg, and the chick Pokemon obliged. The two had found a very special treasure indeed. The pair had only gotten a few feet away from the Egg site when they encountered a rather strange sight. A tiny sheep Pokemon was tackling a tall tree, in a rather poor attempt to shake off its fruits. Seeing an opportunity to further train her Pokemon, Alexis prepared for battle. "Use Ember," she said quietly, not wanting to let the Mareep on to their ambush, "while it's not looking." Torchic obeyed, letting out a long flame that hit the sheep Pokemon's tail and left a clear burn mark. Angrily, the Mareep turned and tackled Torchic, causing it to fall flat on the ground. It was about to attack again when Torchic let out another Ember, knocking the foe back and causing him to hit the tree. Feeling even more confident about her and her Pokemon's abilities, Alexis told her Torchic to give the battle all that he had. He responded by scratching the Mareep across its legs, causing it to fall down. Seeing the opportunity to once again try to catch a Pokemon, Alexis lobbed one of her PokeBalls at it. egg posts: 01/1007/15 Growl / Scratch / Ember

Disappointingly enough, Alexis had missed yet another opportunity to catch a Pokemon. On the bright side, the mysterious egg she had found was comfortably lodged inside her backpack. Even through the layers of fabric, she could feel the egg radiating warmth. There just had to be a very, very special Pokemon in here. Hopefully the egg would hatch in due time... She and Torchic continued walking through the forest, never stopping to rest. Although she certainly didn't look like it, the young Trainer had remarkable endurance. Once again, they weren't walking for very long when they faced another interrupting. A cranky-looking old man came their way, wearing a dirt-stained apron and carrying a plethora of winter plants on his back. "I can't do much gardening in this weather," he mumbled, "So battle me." Looking for a way to test her skills, Alexis happily obliged, sending her Torchic out to fight as the gardener sent out his own Pokemon, a dainty-looking Skorupi. "Skorupi, go 'head and use Poison Sting," the man drawled. Immediately, the scorpion Pokemon let out a series of stingers that hit the Torchic's body, causing it to chirp loudly from pain due to the poison. "Use Ember!" Alexis told her Torchic, who released a long flame that hit the poison/bug Pokemon super effectively, leaving it reeling from the hit. The Skorupi attempted to bite Torchic, but it had been left dazed from the flames. With another Ember, Torchic finished the Pokemon off, and hopped to its own Trainer, seeking approval. egg posts: 02/1012/15 Growl / Scratch / Ember

"IN MY WORLD THERE IS NO PLACE FOR WEAKLINGS LIKE YOU." | any mod | 364 words | trying to catch zigzagoon; tba after roll |
Alexis's first battle against a real, actual trainer had been a rousing success. She allowed a rare smile to creep across her face as the Torchic hopped happily to her side, having defeated the opposing Skorupi. The elderly gardener gave Alexis the prize money he had promised and stomped away, clearly surly about losing to a wet-behind-the-ears teenager who had just started to learn about Pokemon. Alexis pulled out her bag to pocket the money, and fed Torchic a SweetHeart to reward him for his hard work. The chick Pokemon gobbled up the chocolate delicacy quickly, having both his health and his belly restored. The two continued walking until the end of the forest was in sight. In the distance, Alexis could see the lights of a Pokemon Center, which served as a checkpoint between the forest and the first route of Obstina. It would take the pair, say, another ten to fifteen minutes to reach the white building, take a quick rest, and return to traveling. After the multiple battles they had just been through, Alexis and Torchic would get through the last part of the forest seamlessly.Or so the young trainer thought, before she felt herself step on something very fluffy. What Alexis had stepped on let out a loud, screeching cry, causing the trainer to reel back in surprise. It was a wild Zigzagoon, napping in the middle of the path, that she had inadvertently stomped on and woken up from its sleep. The raccoon Pokemon was extremely angry despite the clear accidental nature of Alexis's step. Torchic jumped in front to defend its Trainer. The Zigzagoon growled at it, scaring the chick Pokemon and lowering its attack. In response, Torchic attacked it with Ember. Menancingly, the Zigzagoon growled once again, trying to further lower the amount of damage that Torchic could do, but the chick Pokemon responded with another hard-hitting Ember. The Zigzagoon fiercely tackled Torchic, causing it to yelp in pain. Torchic let out a final Ember before his Trainer lobbed a PokeBall at the Zigzagoon, hoping not to necessarily catch it, but to buy the pair some time as they ran away from this angry little creature.egg posts: 03/10
