Continuing on his way to the next settlement after Calitha, Bellamy found himself on the bank of a frozen river. The water underneath was still liquid, but the surface was frozen solid. It could probably be broken, though, so Bellamy dared not try walking across the thing. There was no one around to help him out if he fell in, and he didn't want to meet his demise freezing and drowning.
"What to do now," he asked himself quietly, walking down the bank some more. He was looking for a bridge of some sort. To get him across. It was his goal to be in Ulmaria City by nightfall. He wanted nothing more than to find an inn and enjoy a nice, hot meal before retiring to a soft, warm bed for the night. Before that could happen, though, he'd have to find his way over.
He thought about releasing his Pokemon team for company, but decided it best not to draw them into this cold without need, save his own loneliness. Besides, the sound of nature's silence wasn't such a bad traveling playlist.

It wasn't long after he'd been walking down the river bank for some time that the Pokemon Specialist in training heard a rustle on the other side of the frozen water. Looking over the ice, he could see what the source of the noise was through sparse, bare twigs. A whole gang of Delibird were out and about; he could only assume they were foraging for dropped berries. In their group five, it looked like two bigger Delibird were leading the pack. Bellamy could only assume they were the two most highly leveled Delibirds in the group. One was oddly colored, and its purple feathers made it stand out against its red-coated comrades.
This would make for a good time to release his own Pokemon. Grabbing at two Pokeballs on his clip, Jordan reached for the only two Pokemon he knew could safely make it across the frozen river without fear of falling in. In a bright flash that even caught the Delibirds' attentions, Munna and Fletchling emerged in the air. "All right," Bellamy began, sounding like he was about to give a battle command, "Lucky Chant and Quick Attack!"
The two would blitz in different directions, Munna deciding to perform her song from far away while Fletchling dove right in for his attack, landing it spot on at one of the weaker Delibird in the group. The Delibird all had their sights set on Fletchling, four of them using Present and the rainbow-colored orbs missing their mark thanks to Fletchling's speed. It was, however, not fast enough to evade the shiny Delibird's Aurora Beam. It struck Fletchling, temporarily grounding him. In that time, however, Munna retaliated with her own Psywave.
Once Fletchling rejoined the battle, Bellamy continued to guide his Pokemon until they had defeated all of the weaker Delibird, leaving only the two bigger ones that the researcher assumed were of higher level. His own Pokemon looked as worn out as the other two did, if not slightly more because they had been battling five wild Pokemon for a few minutes now. Reaching into his bag and grabbing two Pokeballs, Bellamy hoped he was strong enough to toss them clear over the frozen river.
When his Pokeballs tapped the two tuckered out Delibird on their abdomens*, Jordan started to run down the river bank. He knew there would be a bridge somewhere, and he knew that if his captures were successful he would need to be on the opposite side of the river to collect his Pokeballs. "Watch the Pokeballs, Fletchling!" he called out, because Munna had already begun to trail after him. "I'll be right there!"
*OOC - I am attempting to catch the level 7 and level 6 Delibird.

When Munna and Bellamy had finally made their way to where Fletchling was circling overhead after crossing a bridge further down, Fletchling began to chirp at his trainer frantically. "Uh-oh, what's wrong?" he asked, slowing his jog to a comfortable walking pace once again. He feared his bird Pokemon was trying to tell him that the two Delibird had gotten away, but that couldn't be because the two broken Pokeballs would have been lying on the ground, which they weren't. "Oh, I know what happened," he said aloud as Fletchling landed atop a branch, seeing no need to keep flying.
The answer became clear to the researcher immediately. The captures must have been successful and, because he was carrying too many Pokemon on him at the moment, the Pokeballs had been sent to the automated online storage system. "No, this is good," he assured his Pokemon as Munna rested on his shoulder. "I'll probably keep one of the Delibird to train with us and I can put the other one up for adoption. I just wanted to study them first and see if their level alone made them fit to lead that horde or if there were other behavior traits that made them right for the job." He was thinking about it already, and knew this would make an interesting chapter in his publishing.
"Thanks for the help," he said, returning Fletchling to his Pokeball. "I guess you can stay," he said to Munna with a small smile. Her response was a yawn. Turning around, he continued onward for Ulmaria City. When he and Munna came across a particularly slow-moving Metapod, they decided to battle it because Munna could use the experience. The Metapod used Harden a lot, making sure that Munna's Psywave attacks were doing less and less damage. Once it had waited Munna out, the bug type went on the offensive and began to use Tackle attacks of its own. He might have won, too, until Bellamy replenished Munna's energy with some sweetheart treats from his pack. With a final Psywave blast, Munna had defeated her wild foe and the two were on their way again. "Good job back there."

Bellamy and Munna were still on their way to Ulmaria City when the two decided to break for lunch. Releasing the rest of his Pokemon, Bellamy sat in the middle of Fletchling, Growlithe, Nidoran and Munna and poured the Pokemon chow into four small, separate bowls. Growlithe had ignited some kindling for the group so that they would not have to sit in the cold; Bellamy was boiling water so that he could make coffee after he finished his salad.
"I think we're making good time," he said to the group, thinking about all they had accomplished so far today. "We have enough time to take a little break and still make it there before the day ends." The team looked glad to hear they could take some time to stretch their legs. Nidoran and Growlithe went off on their own exploring while Fletchling went for a flight and Munna decided to stay at camp and nap. With this free time, Jordan took out his journal and jotted down notes about the Delibird troop that he wanted to ensure he remembered later.
On their walk, Nidoran and Growlithe had their noses to the ground. They were sniffing out a curious smell in the area. Soon, they found the strange scent - a wild Munchlax, who must have found their scent strange too because he had sniffed them out! The friendly Pokemon waved and Growlithe let out an excited bark. His bark alerted his trainer, who came over through the bushes to see what the commotion was about. Upon seeing the Big Eater Pokemon, Bellamy placed a welcoming smile on his face. "Well, hello there, little guy."
After seeing how much his Pokemon enjoyed getting to play with the wild Munchlax, the researcher decided not to return them to their Pokeballs as they continued to Ulmaria; he didn't want to spoil the play date. So for about another hour the group continued, Bellamy making observations about how wild Pokemon and captured Pokemon interacted with one another. As they began to approach the city limits, he turned to Munchlax, who was saying goodbye to everyone after serving as their de facto tour guide along the tail end of the route.
"You know, Munchlax," he started, pulling a Friend Ball from his bag, "you could come with us. Then you wouldn't have to say goodbye to anyone. How's that sound?" While Munchlax seemed to be mulling it over, Bellamy got down on one knee and tapped the green Pokemon's forehead with his ball. It wiggled in his hand, and he wondered what Munchlax would decide. His Pokemon looked on intently to see if they would be gaining a new family member or not.

Bellamy was glad to see that the wild Munchlax had accepted his invitation to join his Pokemon team. The researcher couldn't help but feel that he was well on his way to having a nice-sized, diverse collection of Pokemon to call his friends. Such a team would be necessary if he ever wanted to reach the ranks of the greats like Professor Hickory here in Obstina and Professor Oak in Kanto, and the young man knew that.
For now, though, he was happy to finally be at the next stop along his travels. Munchlax's ball transferred itself to the online storage system. Bellamy stood and prepared to enter Ulmaria, and that's when he saw him. The older gentleman emerged in the dusk on the trail and challenged Bellamy to a one on one Pokemon battle.
Sending Munna forward, Bellamy wondered how strong the opponent's Audino could be. It looked so darling, but he knew better than to underestimate an opponent on looks alone. (Munna wasn't exactly menacing herself, after all.) Jordan called for Defense Curl, preparing for the worst, and Audino's powerful Pound proved that it was nothing to scoff at. The battle continued on for some while longer, Munna protecting herself with Lucky Chant and going on the offensive with Psywave while Audino used Pound to continuously wear away at Bellamy's Pokemon.
At one point, the blonde thought Munna was preparing to end the battle with one more well-placed Psywave. That was when Audino used a move it had been saving for just this moment - Draining Kiss. The smooch took sapped the last of Munna's energy, rendering her virtually defenseless when Audino delivered the game-winning strike with its Pound attack. Munna fell, and Bellamy was declared the loser.
Returning Munna to her Pokeball, a defeated Bellamy paid the winnings over to the victor. The researcher turned to Fletchling, Growlithe, and Nidoran, looking at them all who had been audience to his loss. "Well, let this be a wake up call to all of us." Returning everyone else to their Pokeballs as well, Bellamy marched into Ulmaria alone. Having an eclectic collection of Pokemon would not be enough. He had to train them and raise them to be strong too.
