[attr="id","k6"]The sound of wings drew his gaze away from the strings of words on the pages, and a frown graced his lips. His eye squinted ever-so-slightly as he tried to peer up at the sky. Despite the cloud cover, what little sunlight managed to break through was blinding while the earth was painted white. At least the tall towers that stretched toward the sky blocked out some of the sunlight, yet the sun had yet to take its position at its the highest point. Ah, there. A Starly. The bird flew overhead and landed not far off, hopping below a tree as it pecked at the ground in search of grubs. This would be perfect for training his newly acquired Pokemon.

His hand dipped into his pocket, pulling out the first Pokeball he picked up. He should make some sort of clasp for his belt, but he could worry about the awkward lumps on his thigh later. Pressing the button in the middle, the Pokeball grew in size before opening, releasing the Sneasel from within. The dual type stretched and flexed his claws, glancing once at his master before his focus snapped to the Starly. Before Shani could give the command, the Sneasel's claws began to shine with a bright blue light, and his claws curled into what could only be described as a fist. The Sneasel lunged forwards with a burst of speed, socking the unsuspecting bird square in the chest. In a flurry of feathers and blue light, the Starly was knocked back against the tree, dislodging snow from the low hanging limbs. The snow dropped to the ground, partially covering the bird as it tried to see past the stars in its vision.

The Sneasel turned towards Shani, his ears twitching as he took a few steps forward, studying the dark frown on the boy's face. "Next time, wait until I give the command."

[attr="id","k6"]"Let's go," came the short command as the raven haired boy began walking once more. His nose quickly became buried in his book, and he absently began listening to the sounds around him. He found that focusing on the words on the page grew harder and harder as his mind was taken by the crunch of the snow, the distant tweeting of birds, and something coming at them, fast. He tensed up, listening to the oncoming footsteps. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the Sneasel turn, flexing his claws and staring intently at whoever was intruding on their stroll.

With a sigh, he closed his book once more, tucking it under his arm as he turned around. The stranger skidded to a halt, a wide grin on her face. "Hey there! How about an early morning battle?" She looked around college age, and she was probably working to pay tuition. Despite that, she still seemed rather dressed up. Perhaps that was because many schools were currently on break, giving more time to earn money or... goof off. She did not even look like she was from around here. A tourist? Maybe. Vacationing on the holidays was a favorite among some. His eye drew to the woman's face, and despite her cheery exterior, she shifted uncomfortably at his gaze.

"Fine," came his short response. She lit up like a Christmas tree, and her hand dived into her pocket to retrieve her Pokeball. "C'mon out, Espurr!" Her voice chimed as the Pokeball broke open, and a small, lavender cat appeared in a beam of light. "Sneasel." At the call, the weasel stepped forwards, and the boy stepped backwards. "Are you going to listen to me this time? Scratch." In the blink of an eye, the Sneasel charged forwards, long claws faintly glowing and sharpening as he lashed out. The Espurr was knocked back before they were able to dodge, and the psychic energy around them rippled before putting up a barrier. He hadn't even heard a command from the woman, but, then again, he hadn't been listening.

Shani scoffed, quickly assessing the situation before commanding his Pokemon once more. "Leer." The Sneasel narrowed its stare at the encased Espurr, and the barrier visibly weakened around them. The feline moved forwards, trying its best to act cute before it rammed its body into the Sneasel. He would have to work with the weasel later. He could not have him losing a battle due to affection based moves. "Ice Punch." The Sneasel clenched his fists, the familiar blue light colder than the snow encasing his claws. He dived in, ramming the Espurr in the chest and knocking them back. "Again." The Espurr moved in with their claws ready, scratching at the Sneasel as he drew his fist back. The cat was forced away by the impact, and this time the ice formed around the feline's legs, freezing them to the ground.

"Finish it." The Sneasel grinned wickedly, malice seeping in the form of blue ice around his fist. One more punch was all it took, and the Espurr was passed out in the snow. A light recalled the fainted Pokemon, and the girl let a frown adorn her face. He turned towards her as the Sneasel approached. "If someone is reading, do not bother them next time."

[attr="id","k6"]The woman left with an odd look on her face, but he paid no heed to it. He should never worry about someone else, especially not after beating them in a battle. It was their own fault for requesting it in the first place. Shani and the Sneasel continued their walk, but this time he did not dare remove the book from underneath his arm. Instead, he left it there, not finding any reason to read it in case they were interrupted once more. After a while of walking, and just when he was ready to begin reading again, their next distraction arrived in the form of three gliding rodents. The Emolga landed on the ground, digging through the snow as if they had dropped something. Or perhaps they were just searching for leftovers.

A glance down to his side revealed that the Sneasel was nowhere to be found. He rolled his eyes, looking up at a screech. He looked up just in time to see one of the Emolga faint from a single blow of the Sneasel's Ice Punch, a similar fate that the Starly had. He let out a tsk, turning towards the battle. "Don't wait for me; you know what to do." There was a series of shocks and punches as the three Pokemon fought it out. One had even managed to lower the Sneasel's attack with Charm, and the irritation on the boy's face was evident. Yet, the Sneasel still fought.

He retrieved the weasel's Pokeball the moment he saw the wear and tear on the Sneasel. The dual type's breathing grew ragged, and his movements were growing sluggish. "Return," He quickly switched out the Pokeballs, releasing a blue-eyed Venonat onto the snow. The bug shivered, clearly disliking the winter weather. He didn't blame him. "Tackle," he commanded, and the purple furred bug managed to knock out the weakest of the remaining Emolga after getting zapped. This only left the strongest. The remaining Emolga rammed into the Venonat from the sky, and Shani was quick to dish out another command. "Supersonic," he covered his ears as he said this, muffling the shrill sound that the bug produced.

The Emolga toddled around, trying to gather its bearings while its vision swam. It tried to attack, but it ended up only hurting itself. "Finish it off." The Venonat dove in for a tackle, knocking the squirrel back. This time, the Emolga was able to attack without missing, yet it just narrowly missed knocking the Venonat out. One last tackle attack and the last of the Emolga had fainted. Venonat hopped over to his trainer, shivering up against his leg for warmth. There was silence as he pointed the Venonat's Pokeball at the bug. "Good job." With that, he returned the bug to its warm prison.
